Government has allocated $1 million to Gweru Provincial Hospital for its upgrade after it was turned into a teaching hospital for the faculty of medicine at Midlands State University (MSU). The $1 million was part of $5 million that had been budgeted by the Government for the hospital’s expansion programme.

Govt has embarked on a massive rehabilitation programme for public health institutions. programme, which is going to be implemented in partnership with private players provided for under the 2015 Joint Ventures Act. Parirenyatwa, Mpilo and United Bulawayo Hospitals have since invited bidders interested in partnering them in refurbishing and re-equipping various sections of the hospitals. Successful firms or groups will also operate a super-specialty hospital wing within each institution.

UK wellwisher revamps Mpilo ward

MPILO Central Hospital has refurbished a ward that had not been renovated since 1957 when the institution was built, after receiving a donation from Dumi International Aid. The UK based organisation founded by Dumisani Moyo- a Zimbabwean philanthropist based in the Diaspora- specialises in funding developmental projects in Africa. The organisation renovated Ward B6, a male ward for patients suffering from infectious diseases by replacing all ablution facilities, replacing sluice kit, curtains and cutlery.
