Government has roped in global experts in the reform of State-owned enterprises, also known as parastatals, as it seeks to bring viability to the businesses.
The experts will include accountants and strategic advisors who will work together with a team of high-flying local experts, many of whom are leading international experts in finance, economics and business management.

Chitando appoints new MMCZ board

Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando has appointed a new seven-member board for the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).
The board will be chaired by Mr David Murangari. Other notable appointments include Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe chief executive Mr Isaac Kwesu and former Hwange Colliery Company Limited board member Mr Jermister Chininga.

Privatisation deadline for parastatals

Government has given under-performing State-owned enterprises (SOEs) and parastatals it has earmarked for disposal — among them NetOne, TelOne and People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) — between six and nine months to conclude privatisation deals, a Cabinet minister has said. He said Government will dissolve all subsidiary boards of ZESA Holdings and allow ZPC to engage strategic partners for its power generation projects. Grain Marketing Board (GMB) will be demerged into a commercial business unit and Strategic Grain Reserve.

Through a series of State enterprise reforms, the government is aiming to privatise 16 entities, merge 13 parastatals and liquidate two others. The government’s intentions were confirmed by State Enterprises Restructuring Agency (Sera) executive director Edgar Nyoni.
