Government has cracked the whip on clueless Forbes Border Post officials for failing to find sustainable solutions to the congestion characterising the port of entry, resulting in long queues of trucks awaiting clearance stretching 15 kilometres into Mozambique.

PSC to weed out ghost workers

Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary Jonathan Wutaunashe said the PSC was also working on weeding out ghost workers after joining forces with the Registrar-General’s Office to computerise systems so that deceased civil servants would immediately be struck off the payroll.
On rationalising the civil service, he said after the cutting off of some ministries by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the PSC was now looking at removing redundant posts and those positions where there was duplication of work in order to reduce the wage bill.

Finance Minister Fires Entire Zimra Board, Says Govt Wants To Get Its Finances Under Control

Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mthuli Ncube has dissolved the entire board of the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) with immediate effect. The minister made the announcement at the presentation of the mid-term monetary policy statement on Monday. A new board will be appointed in due course and until the new board is appointed Zimra management will be run by the Treasury. Zimra has also been ordered to stop the appointment of key personnel. The hiring of all vacant senior positions has also been frozen.
Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development George Guvamatanga said the board had been dissolved for governance purposes. Guvamatanga added that the board’s term had already ended and an application for an extension of the’ board’s term had been denied by the government.

Addressing permanent secretaries of all ministries on Tuesday, Mnangagwa warned that his government would not excuse “bureaucratic slothfulness which is quick to brandish procedures as an excuse for stalling service delivery. Our mantra should be peak performance, peak performance, peak performance,” he added.
