NRZ in Russian locomotive, wagon deal

The first batch of 100 wagons is expected to arrive in the country in January 2020. The current 100 wagons are costing US$10 million and funding has been secured. Besides the wagons, NRZ will get 70 locomotives. Ultimately, the deal involves the supply of 5 000 wagons.

NRZ has realised a capacity increase of at least 30% from the time it received the first batch of wagons and locomotives from the Diaspora Infrastructure Development Group (DIDG) and South Africa’s Transnet, the Zimbabwe Independent has learnt.
NRZ refurbishes 400 wagons

Mnangagwa commissions NRZ rolling stock

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commissioned a consignment of 157 wagons, 7 locomotives and 7 coaches for the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), marking a giant step towards the country's revival of the railway system and the economy.
The development follows a US$400 million deal struck between the NRZ, a South African firm Transnet and a group of Zimbabweans in the diaspora united under the banner Diaspora Infrastructure Development Group (DIDG).
