E-payment infrastructure growing

From just about 16 400 Point-of-Sale (POS) machines at the start of 2016, the Central Bank has recorded 70 960 POS machines as at 31 March 2018, an 18.3 percent increase from 59 939 that were there same period last year.
Electronic money hits 96pc of transactions

Monetary transactions in the Zimbabwean economy are now dominated by electronic payment systems with more than 96 percent of local transactions now being conducted through plastic, internet and mobile money. While the use of electronic forms of payment came as a result of cash shortages, it puts the country ahead of other countries across the globe that are working towards achieving a cashless society.

(2) Subject to subsections (4) and (5), every designated payee shall, if a person tenders payment for its goods or services by electronic means instead of cash or partly by cash and partly by electronic means, accept the tender of such payment.
